Team Development - Internal Collaboration
Risk Management Team in a Major UK Bank
The team had a tendency to work in “silos” and to have less influence with its internal clients than was desirable.
Aims
The team had a tendency to work in "silos" and to have less
influence with its internal clients than was desirable.
Action
Designed and facilitated a team building programme for part of
the risk management team. The programme involved an initial 2-day
off-site team building workshop followed by a one-day event 12
weeks later. The events included experiential exercises to
illustrate how the team working increased amongst the participants
as they learnt to communicate more closely and develop trust. The
Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was used to increase their
understanding of their own working preferences and how they
interact with other.
Outcome
After the initial workshop the client reported higher team
morale, greater willingness to seek and offer help when
appropriate, and greater willingness to take a team rather that
individual perspective. Better team-working skills and greater
confidence in each other were clearly demonstrated at the follow-up
workshop, allowing more difficult areas of strategy and culture to
be discussed effectively in the group.
