Business leaders discuss social media at Success Groups's event
Around 50 senior people from HR and General Management attended
The Success Group networking event on 27th
September.
Discussion centred on the topic of 'Personal branding' and
'Corporate branding' in the age of social media such as Linkedin,
Facebook and Twitter.
Ron Leagas, whose presentation kicked off the
discussion, made the point:
"Because we now have social media we have to
remember that the people who work for you are as much a part of
your brand identity as are your logo, your ad campaign and your
product."
Research indicates that around half of the world's leading
companies are using social media proactively to connect with their
various stakeholders...which begs the question of whether they have
got it right, and whether those who are avoiding it are wise to the
drawbacks or simply missing out on opportunities. In a recent
survey* of Chairmen and CEO's, views were mixed...one participant
commenting "It's a nightmare! As an organisation you cannot
allow conversations about your company to take place that you are
not part of, so we are doing a lot of thinking about
this".
"Media relations is neither more or less important
as a result of the changes-just more difficult"
(Sir Christopher Gent, Chairman,
GlaxoSmithKline)
Comments from some attendees at the event were...
" It was good to compare notes on this hot topic
with other business leaders who recognise that social media is here
to stay but also that it calls for careful management" Paul
Mehra, Head of Consulting Zurich (ZAE).
"Success Group events are always fun, this one was
particularly topical and informative as well" Stewart Fox
Mills, Head of Marketing Services,Post Office
